Salsa Dancers Guide to Brisbane The Brisbane Salsa Scene is spread across the city, with many schools and regular parties. Brisbane is also home to the Salsa Solo competition which hosts lots of talented dancers showing off their fancy footwork and body movement. The cornerstone of social dancing in Brisbane is the Sunday Salsa Seduction held every Sunday at Casablanca hotel. There is a lesson before the party with one of many guest teachers. Then the party begins and goes until around midnight. Ups stairs they have a zouk and Brazilian dance floor, downstairs is all salsa and bachata, and the occasional cha cha cha. There are is also a regular weekly party on Thursdays at Cloudland in Fortitude Valley. This is not the original Cloudland (which was maliciously and tragically destroyed in the 70's), but the new Cloudland is nonetheless spectacular. If you are new to salsa, then there are loads of Dance schools on Brisbane where you can start learning. Debbie Smits runs the long standing Latin Energy, Carlos and Elli run the flamboyant Latin Steps. Several larger schools with dedicated studio space are Smooth Latin Groove, Vida Latina and Rio Rhythmics (although the later focuses more on the Brazlian styles of dance rather than Salsa). I hope you enjoy dancing in Brisbane.
