The intention with Chicago is to create a dance place that is a combination of a dance studio and a small traditional ballroom. From the beginning (1909-mid 50s), the place was a movie theatre by the name of Chicago and equipped with 220 seats. During the later part of the 50s the interior was destroyed and several different activities filled the rooms including a ballroom dance school. When we took over the contract in March 2004 our ambition was clear: we wanted to recreate an old-fashioned nightclub atmosphere in a combination with traditional African-American swing dancing. All the interior work, including sound insulation and ventilation, started during the summer of 2004 and is still in progress and we believe that we will finally finish the work within a year.
